Job description

We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Senior Campaigns Manager to serve as the critical link between campaign strategy and grassroots execution. This role will work closely with theSenior Director of Campaignsto translate high-level campaign goals into actionable plans, while partnering with theOrganizing teamto ensure strategies are powered by strong grassroots participation. The Senior Campaigns Manager will focus on implementing tactics, mobilizing supporters, and aligning campaign timelines with organizing capacity to win democracy reforms. They will also work collaboratively with States, External Affairs,Policy and other teams to advance campaign goals under our four organizational pillars: Voting and Fair Representation, Anti-Corruption and Accountability, Media and Technology, and Civil Rights and Civil Liberties.

This is a full-timerole reporting to the Senior Director, Campaignsand is remote anywhere within the lower 48 United States with up to 30% travel around the countryto support state campaigns and coalition efforts. We hope our new Senior Campaigns Manager will start in August.

Responsibilities:


Lead Campaigns
  • Drive campaign tacticsin alignment with team priorities (for example, legislative advocacy pushes, digital mobilizations, rapid-response efforts).
  • Lead 1-3 campaigns at any given time, including state, regional or national advocacy or education efforts
  • Translate campaign plans into clear timelines, deliverables, and roles for the Organizing team.
  • Measure progress on key campaign metrics, working in collaboration with the Data Systems Manager (for example, legislator engagements, media hits, voter contact outcomes, etc.), with an intentionality toward adapting campaigns as needed.
Collaborate with the Organizing Team
  • Partner with the Organizing team toalign campaign goals with grassroots capacity, ensuring mobilizations (e.g., petitions, lobby days, phone banks) are strategically timed and resourced.
  • Develop educational trainingand resources to empower volunteers and state staff to advance campaign objectives.
  • Collaborate with the Organizing team to coordinatevoter contact programsand digital advocacy tools (Scale to Win, Mobilize, Action Builder)
Collaborate with teams across the organization to drive effective campaigns
  • Collaborate with thePolicy teamto translate legislative priorities into actionable advocacy steps for organizers and volunteers.
  • Collaborate withExternal Affairsto ensure campaign messaging is consistent across grassroots materials and public-facing content.
  • Collaborate with State organizations to create strong campaigns for state legislative, regional efforts, and ballot fights
  • Share relevant data and stories with theDevelopment teamto demonstrate campaign impact for funders.
Operational Support
  • Manage budgets for campaign-specific tools (for example, texting platforms, state support)
  • Develop and manage systems to track volunteer engagement and campaign milestones.

  • Ability to compel action through both written and verbal communication, including distilling complex concepts for a broad audience, and to differentiate communications as needed for various audiences
  • Innovative and strategic thinking skills, with the ability to navigate through ambiguity to achieve goals, and a resourceful approach to solving problems
  • Ability to manage and meet deadlines for multiple short- and long-term priorities at once, with high attention to detail; strong organization skills, and the ability to manage your time independently
  • A commitment to equity in the goals of your work and in how you work with others
  • Openness to feedback and awareness of your own strengths and areas for growth
  • Familiarity with office productivity tools, including Microsoft Office, Slack, and Zoom
The following is required:
  • Experience leading successful local- or state-level or national public advocacy campaigns related to democracy, elections, voting rights, and civil rights, including creating and managing campaign or annual plans, from conception through implementation
  • Demonstrated knowledge oftheunique aspects ofour national political dynamic
  • Experience managing coalitions or groups that represent stakeholders with diverse interests to achieve a goal
  • Demonstrated knowledge of funders and decision-makers at thefederal level,with a preference for candidates who have existing relationships with these people and organizations
  • Ability to travel 1-2 times per year for team and/or all staff retreats
  • Ability to work remotely up to 30% travel around the country to support state campaigns and coalition efforts.
  • Willing to have a social media presence on behalf of Common Cause, including being tagged on posts and creating content on behalf of the organization (as needed, Common Cause may provide accounts for staff members to use)
  • Per our nonpartisan policy, Common Cause staff members may not currently be in elected office (or running for office); on the Steering Committee or Finance Committee for any political candidate; or affiliated with the leadership of a political party
Additional information about this role:
  • This position is included in a union-represented collective bargaining unit, and specific employment terms and conditions are subject to collective bargaining negotiations.
  • Common Cause is unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa at this time; please note that if hired, you will be asked to produce documentation for authorization to work in the US.

$97,850 - $113,300 a year
Note that we do have geography-specific percentage increases, depending on where you are located; details here.
In order to ensure greater equity and transparency as an organization, Common Cause sets salary ranges consistently based on job responsibilities, and we determine salary for each staff member based on relevant years of experience (you can read more about our approach to compensation here, including where we offer geographical adjustments).
