Job summary

Terracon in Raleigh, NC is seeking an experienced CAD Drafter to lead drafting on multiple projects. You will develop and prepare engineering drawings from concepts using CAD software, follow client specifications, and ensure drawings conform to design data.

The position requires a high school diploma, 5–7 years of CAD experience, and an associate degree in drafting or graphic technology preferred. A valid driver’s license is required.

• Minimum 5-7 years practical CAD experience.
• Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degree in graphic or drafting technology preferred.
• Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the drafting lead, discipline designer and/or drafting approver on multiple projects and provide illustrated computerized drafting according to project specifications.
• Develop and prepare engineering designs and drawings from preliminary concepts, sketches, specification sheets and other data, using computer-aided design (CAD), according to client specifications.
• Submit documentation packages and produce drawing sets and standard operating procedures.
• Check and verify design drawings to conform to specifications and design data.
• Train subordinate CAD Operators and help establish drafting standards for the company.
• Purchases or recommends purchase of all needed hardware and supplies.
• Acts as initial contact with clients or other departments, ensures the CAD systems are kept up to date with current hardware/software and ensures equipment is properly maintained.
• Classify and organize engineering drawings.
• Follow safety rules, guidelines and standards for all projects. Participate in pre-task planning. Report any safety issues or concerns to management.
• Be responsible for maintaining quality standards on all projects.

Perform computer aided drafting (CAD) for preparation of engineering drawings using industry appropriate software. Uses standard symbol sets and drawings to minimize drawing effort. Performs hand drafting as needed. May reference information from vendor prints, catalogs, and technical manuals.
