Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a CAD Drafter to draft, edit, and finalize technical drawings using AutoCAD and Civil 3D. The role involves transforming sketches into precise CAD drawings, collaborating with the CADD group, and ensuring quality across project deliverables.

Ideal candidates bring an Associate degree in Drafting or equivalent experience, strong math and geometry skills, and the ability to travel to client sites as required. Proficiency with Windows and the Office suite is expected.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s Degree in Drafting or high school diploma with 1+ year CAD drafting experience.
  • Knowledge of engineering basics: sheet organization, scales, coordinates.
  • Experience with land or aerial surveying data and Civil 3D is preferred.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD and related drafting standards.
  • Strong math, geometry, and ability to read redline drawings.
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license for travel.

Job description

Responsibilities
  • Draft, edit, & finalize technical drawings.
  • Operate a CAD computer using appropriate hardware and software to develop final drawings.
  • Transfer information from an engineering drawing to a final CAD drawing using appropriate symbols and drafting standards.
  • Analyze sketches, notes, and other input material to determine the best approach to complete drawings.
  • Copy detailed plans and drawings and perform non-routine complex drafting assignments.
  • Operate plotter, printer, scanner, and other input/output devices.
  • Proofread CAD drawings for accuracy, format, and grammar.
  • Participate in CAD Action Group, by supporting, networking, and collaborating to improve CAD standards and efficiencies across the company.
  • Work collaboratively with other Geosyntec CADD practitioners to prepare design drawings and details and review completed work products to ensure quality.
  • Drive personal, company, and rental vehicles to client or company project or office sites, and other business locations, as needed.
Requirements
  • Associate’s Degree in Drafting; or graduation from an accredited high school and a minimum of one (1) year experience performing CAD drafting work in a professional setting, or equivalent education, experience and training that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Knowledge of engineering basics, including sheet organization, topographical data, scales, and coordinate systems.
  • Experience using/incorporating land or aerial surveying/mapping data and files.
  • Experience with mechanical design.
  • Experience using the latest releases of Autodesk AutoCAD.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD includes but is not limited to Annotation Styles, Multileaders, MTEXT, Dimensions, Sheet Sets, Paper Space / Model Space, XREFs, Layers, Dynamic Blocks, and Tool Palettes.
  • Working knowledge of the latest releases of Autodesk AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Basic understanding of the latest releases of Microsoft Windows, Outlook, Word, Excel, Skype, Adobe PDF, and Windows File Explorer.
  • Strong reasoning, mathematical, and geometrical skills.
  • Ability to perform basic math skills, including applying concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations, and fundamentals of geometry and trigonometry.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret red line drawings from Engineers, CAD Managers, or others on the project team.
  • Strong communication skills to include the ability to understand and follow complex verbal and written instructions, and the ability to interact effectively to maintain a team environment.
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel.
