Job summary

Garmin Ltd. is seeking a Senior C++ Engineer - Maps Platform for its U.S. headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area or in Cary, NC to advance map data delivery, storage and rendering across embedded devices.

You will work on high-performance, memory-efficient, multithreaded systems for constrained environments, focusing on performance engineering and scalable data architecture. This role combines leadership and hands-on design to shape next-generation mapping capabilities across Garmin

Qualifications

Experience with complex data systems, file formats, or large-scale data sets.
Proficiency in C++ (C++14 or newer).
Systems-level, embedded, or performance-critical software development background.
Ability to decompose requirements into well-defined tasks balancing quality and complexity.
Strong problem-solving and algorithmic skills.
Experience leading a complex software project as a lead engineer.
Excellent communication to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
GPA 3.0+ or equivalent education/experience.

Responsibilities

Lead the design and development of next-generation spatial data systems in C++.
Improve map rendering performance and data efficiency on embedded devices.
Design modular, scalable software architectures for platform evolution.
Evaluate new technologies for mapping and embedded systems.
Provide technical input to product direction and innovation initiatives.
Mentor less-experienced engineers and guide technical direction.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate map platform capabilities across Garmin products.
Contribute to system-level tradeoffs around performance, memory, and user experience.
