Job summary

DuckDuckGo is seeking a Senior C++/Chromium Engineer to build high-performance code at the core of our browser and related projects using modern C++ and Chromium.

You will lead complex initiatives, transform vague problems into concrete plans, and collaborate with design and product to protect user privacy across a large consumer audience. This is a remote-first role with US-based eligibility and a transparent compensation culture.

Qualifications

• Lead and collaborate on high-impact, complex projects from proposal through post-mortem.
• Wrangle vague problems, propose innovative solutions, and execute with a metrics focus.
• 7+ years of software engineering experience.
• Advanced modern C++ (C++23+) including memory management and concurrency.
• Experience driving end-to-end work on large-scale C++ codebases.
• Comfort with large build systems, debuggers, and profilers.
• Experience shipping software to a large consumer audience.
• Bonus: Windows development experience.
• Bonus: browser-related experience (Chromium/WebKit/WebView) or desktop apps.

Responsibilities

• Implement tracker blocking that stops hidden trackers on every site without slowing page loads.
• Bring VPN and Personal Information Removal into the browser through the DuckDuckGo subscription.
• Catch startup and responsiveness regressions automatically, so the browser stays fast as it grows.
