Performance Food Group is seeking an on-site Purchaser to coordinate suppliers, negotiate terms, and secure high-quality products for Foodservice Distribution. You will manage vendor relationships, price negotiations, and inventory levels to support a broad customer base including independent restaurants and institutions.

The role emphasizes on-site collaboration, accurate purchasing, and process improvements while maintaining service levels and driving cost efficiencies across categories.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent.
• This role is in office with no option for remote work.
• Minimum of 1 year Food Procurement/Buying experience.

Responsibilities

• Place POs for assigned vendors and manage confirmations, deliveries and stock.
• Responsible for ongoing training and development of the assigned categories.
• Conduct regularly scheduled category reviews with suppliers and brokers to determine growth and training opportunities.
• Negotiate pricing for sales promotions and programs with guidance.
• Source new products at best quality and price for customer and company.
• Identify and manage slow moving, obsolete inventory and shrink; plan actions to move inventory.
• Communicate with account managers and vendors on purchasing issues affecting customers.
• Coordinate with Purchasing Manager on category sales reporting and gross profit.
• Consolidate inventory to minimize SKU count and identify supplier conversions.
• Assist with marketing programs and negotiate new programs as needed.

Position Summary:

Coordinate and identify suppliers of product, negotiate price and quantity terms and establish long-term contracts to ensure adequate supply of high quality products for Foodservice Distribution at competitive prices. Maintain established service levels for product in-stock. Assist with special order requests. May assist with training. Functions as a team member within the department and organization, as required, and performs any duty assigned to best serve the company.

Position Responsibilities:

• Responsible for ongoing training and development of the assigned categories.


• Conducts regularly scheduled category reviews with suppliers and brokers to determine growth and training opportunities.


• With guidance will negotiate pricing for sales promotions and programs.


• Source new products at the best possible quality and price for both the customer and the company


• Identifies and manages slow moving, obsolete inventory and shrink. Create a plan of action to move inventory


• Interacts with both account managers and vendors, answers their questions in a professional, timely and quality manner


• Consults with company personnel regarding customer requests, product specifications, quality, and other issues as necessary


• Responds to sales and customer service requests and inquiries timely, professionally, and accurately.


• Communicate with sales and customer service on all purchasing related issues that will affect our customers (including, but not limited to, manufacturer shortages, price changes, etc.)


• Work with Purchasing Manager to review reporting for the category sales, growth, and overall gross profit of the assigned categories


• Work with Purchasing Manager to consolidate inventory to minimize number of SKU's stocked in house and identify opportunities to convert products to preferred suppliers


• Work with Purchasing Manager to manage existing marketing programs and negotiate new marketing programs where needed.

Qualifications:

High School Diploma or Equivalent

• Be organized, detail oriented and a good multi-tasker


• Have excellent computer skills including, but not limited to, Microsoft Office, specifically Excel & Outlook


• Have strong written and verbal communication skills


• Have a high sense of urgency


• Minimum of 1 year Food Procurement/Buying experience
