The department delivers a broad range of statewide IT services, including Enterprise Application and Desktop Support, Radio Communications, Voice Services, Data Networking, Hosting, and Storage. NM DoIT supports state agencies, local governments, and partner organizations by ensuring reliable, secure, and efficient technology infrastructure across New Mexico.

Why does the job exist?

This role directly supports the New Mexico Department of Information Technology (NM DoIT). All asset management activities are performed to ensure accurate tracking, accountability, and control of equipment used across the state's enterprise network, voice systems, a portion of radio systems, and IT infrastructure. The work enables NM DoIT to maintain reliable communication services, secure data center operations, and efficient statewide technology support for all partnering agencies.

How does it get done?

Fixed Asset Management:

  • - Manage and maintain the agency's complex fixed asset database for network, desktop, voice, radio, and facility equipment across multiple locations.
  • - Perform asset accounting and auditing activities, including assigning property tags, maintaining accurate system records, conducting physical inventory counts, and reconciling discrepancies between actual stock and system-generated reports.
  • - Coordinate with Purchasing and agency departments to ensure full accountability and compliance with established procedures.
  • - Record and report incoming materials, maintain inventory documentation, and ensure timely updating of asset records.

Asset Disposition Coordination

  • - Facilitate the agency's Disposition Committee (minimum three members, one from each Division) to ensure all federal and state regulations, statutes, and policies are followed during disposal processes.
  • - Manage approvals, documentation, and statutory requirements needed for the disposition of state-owned property.

Technology & Asset Tracking Systems

  • - Utilize the Easy Vista IT Ticketing System and/or Service Now, Excel, SQL, and the WASP asset management application to track Enterprise Communication equipment deployed statewide.
  • - Resolve accounting discrepancies involving packing slips, cycle-count reports, and bills of lading.
  • - Oversee material movement from receiving to site locations safely and efficiently.
  • - Produce weekly equipment reports for network, desktop, voice, and Radio Network divisions.

Facilities Support & Equipment Accountability

  • - Assist with tracking of all incoming and outgoing agency equipment within data centers and associated facilities.
  • - Provide weekly reports on agency equipment entering or leaving the data center.
  • - Manage the organization, transfer, and accountability of stored equipment; maintain clean, orderly storage areas.
  • - Plan, coordinate, and support moves, office space configuration, and basic construction activities within data centers and telecom rooms.

Asset management work ensures accurate tracking, accountability, and deployment of IT hardware, enterprise network infrastructure, voice systems, radio equipment, and facilities related assets used statewide. By maintaining reliable inventory control and supporting operational needs, this role directly contributes to NM DoIT's mission of delivering secure, efficient, and dependable technology services across the state.

The ideal candidate is mild mannered, calm, and professional, able to work effectively in government environments and coordinate with multiple departments. They are a good listener who pays close attention to instructions, procedures, and details shared by staff, auditors, vendors, and management. This person demonstrates strong attention to detail, ensuring fixed assets, facilities equipment, and IT inventory are tracked accurately, documented correctly, and handled in full compliance with state policies and regulations.

They are dependable, organized, and able to work independently when completing audits, resolving discrepancies, or updating asset databases. The ideal candidate communicates clearly, follows established procedures, and takes initiative in resolving issues while maintaining a respectful and collaborative approach with colleagues across divisions.

Associate Degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, or Accounting and one (1) year of directly related job experience in the areas of office administration, budgeting, purchasing, finance, accounting, auditing, cash management, contract management, and/or in the procedures of business and management principles involved in strategic planning. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling three (3) years may substitute for the required education and experience.

Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain current ID or Driver's License. Pre-employment background investigation is required, and employment is conditional pending results.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to

  • - Frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, and reaching while handling IT hardware, network equipment, tools, and facility-related materials.
  • - Regular movement of equipment that may range from small IT components to heavier items such as servers, racks, UPS units, radios, and telecommunications hardware.
  • - Work performed in secured state government facilities, stock rooms, warehouses, data centers, and telecom rooms, often requiring adherence to strict access, safety, and inventory control procedures.
  • - Exposure to various temperature conditions, including data centers, refrigerated areas, or storage spaces that may not be climate controlled.
  • - Use of ladders, carts, pallet jacks, and material handling equipment to safely store, relocate, or retrieve items.
  • - Routine interaction with IT, Facilities, Security, Purchasing, and other agency personnel to coordinate inventory, equipment deployment, and facility support tasks.
  • - Requirement to maintain organized, clean, and compliant storage areas in accordance with state policies, audit standards, and safety regulations.
  • - Potential exposure to dust, packaging materials, cleaning products, electrical equipment noise, and active construction or installation areas.
  • - Work may involve early mornings, evenings, or occasional weekend hours to support agency schedules, data center maintenance windows, or equipment deliveries.
  • - Expected to follow all state government procedures for asset accountability, including documentation, tagging, chain of custody handling, and secure storage of sensitive equipment.
