Job description

Veristar Energy is seeking a Business Development Manager to develop and grow customer relationships across our onsite power business. The role focuses on identifying and qualifying opportunities for onsite generation, CHP, microgrids, power rentals, and Energy-as-a-Service solutions across data centers, oil and gas, healthcare, and industrial facilities.

This position is designed for a developing seller who has experience managing complex sales opportunities and is ready to take greater ownership of accounts and pursuits. The Business Development Manager will manage opportunities through the full sales cycle, work closely with engineering and project development teams, and build customer relationships that lead to both initial projects and long-term recurring revenue.

Who We Are

Veristar Energy is a North American leader in onsite energy systems, combining deep engineering mastery with proven operational execution to deliver complete, custom-engineered energy ecosystems designed for maximum uptime, economic return, and long-term sustainability. Backed by institutional capital and built to scale, we bridge the gap between complex engineering and measurable financial performance, giving businesses total control over their power, costs, and carbon footprint.

We solve complex energy challenges by delivering onsite generation, CHP, microgrids, and rental power across data centers, oil and gas, healthcare, and industrial facilities. Our full-lifecycle approach takes projects seamlessly from initial engineering through deployment and decades of operational partnership. At Veristar, we don’t just supply equipment; we build and sustain the energy infrastructure that keeps essential industries running.

We are an authorized distributor and service provider for specific OEM technologies, including Capstone Energy+. Capstone Energy+ distribution is performed through Veristar’s operating subsidiaries, Vergent Power Solutions and Lone Star Power Solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Develop new accounts and build a pipeline of qualified onsite power opportunities.
  • Manage a defined portfolio of accounts and a focused set of pursuits, with an initial emphasis on new business development and increasing responsibility for account expansion as the portfolio grows.
  • Identify and qualify opportunities based on customer need, commercial fit, and Veristar’s ability to successfully deliver the solution.
  • Develop both one-time project opportunities and recurring rental and Energy-as-a-Service partnerships.
  • Own customer relationships throughout the full lifecycle, from initial opportunity through contract execution, project delivery, and account expansion.
  • Identify opportunities to expand successful customer relationships into additional sites, projects, and recurring partnerships.
  • Partner with engineering and project development teams to define project scope and technical approach.
  • Translate technical solutions into customer business outcomes, including uptime, resilience, time-to-power, total cost of ownership, and return on investment.
  • Prepare and deliver technical and commercial proposals and lead customer discussions and negotiations through contract execution.
  • Maintain accurate forecasts, manage pipeline activity, and keep CRM records current.
  • Track customer needs, competitive offerings, and market activity, and communicate relevant market intelligence internally.

Qualifications

  • Approximately 2–5 years of experience selling capital equipment, engineered systems, infrastructure solutions, or similar complex offerings.
  • Track record of managing and closing complex, multi-stakeholder sales opportunities.
  • Experience carrying a sales target and independently managing opportunities through the sales cycle.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders, from facility and operations personnel to executive leadership.
  • Understanding of commercial concepts including total cost of ownership, payback, ROI, resilience, and uptime economics.
  • Ability to build and manage a pipeline while effectively qualifying opportunities and prioritizing the strongest pursuits.
  • Strong CRM, forecasting, and pipeline-management discipline.
  • Ability to work independently while coordinating closely with engineering, project development, and other internal teams.

Preferred Background

  • Experience selling power, energy, infrastructure, mission-critical facility solutions, or MEP/EPC services.
  • Familiarity with onsite generation, CHP, microgrids, power rentals, or Energy-as-a-Service models.
  • Experience working with data centers, oil and gas, healthcare, industrial facilities, or other mission-critical customers.
  • Experience developing recurring revenue relationships in addition to traditional project-based sales.
  • Familiarity with capital-intensive projects involving technical, financial, and operational stakeholders.

Attributes

  • Takes initiative and ownership of individual results.
  • Commercially minded and disciplined about qualification, margin, and account growth.
  • Comfortable being measured against clear sales and performance expectations.
  • Able to operate independently and manage opportunities without significant day-to-day oversight.
  • Organized and accountable with strong attention to pipeline and forecasting accuracy.
  • Able to learn technical concepts quickly and translate them into clear customer value.
  • Motivated to grow into larger accounts, more complex pursuits, and increasing commercial responsibility.

This role is intended for a developing seller who can independently manage defined accounts and smaller pursuits while continuing to build experience with larger and more complex opportunities. Business Development Managers will have access to senior sales, engineering, and project development resources while retaining ownership of their individual pipeline and customer relationships.

Success at this level means consistently qualifying the right opportunities, closing business effectively, and turning initial customer wins into additional projects and recurring relationships. Strong performance creates a defined path toward increasing account responsibility and progression into Senior Business Development Manager, Business Development Director, and Commercial Market Director roles.

Compensation

Competitive base salary commensurate with experience and level, plus performance-based incentive compensation. Veristar’s sales compensation structure is weighted toward the outcomes that drive long-term enterprise value, including recurring partnerships and account expansion in addition to one-time project bookings.

Veristar Energy is an equal opportunity employer. We evaluate candidates based on qualifications, experience, performance, and overall fit.
