Job summary

VSP Vision Care is seeking a Business Data Analyst to partner with business teams to identify data needs and opportunities for decision support. You will apply analytics and statistical techniques to generate insights through exploration, modeling, and mining, informing strategic choices.

You will develop dashboards, visualizations, and reports, communicate findings to leaders, and collaborate with enterprise analytics to define data models while upholding data quality and governance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in statistics, analytics, mathematics, economics, computer science, or related field, or equivalent experience.
• 4+ years of data analytics experience querying and analyzing operational and/or financial data.
• Experience in analytics projects across Financial Management, Risk, Insurance, Supply Chain, Retail, or Healthcare.
• Experience building complex data queries using SQL.
• Experience creating effective data visualizations/dashboards to monitor KPIs.
• Experience with Cognos Analytics, Tableau, SAS, or similar.
• Expert-level skills in Excel.
• Ability to analyze and document business requirements.
• Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
• Commitment to data governance and privacy policies.

Job description

The Business Data Analyst collaborates with business teams to determine needs and opportunities for leveraging data in support of business monitoring and decision management. Applies a range of analytics and statistical techniques to generate relevant and accurate insights through data exploration, modeling, analysis, and mining. Communicates findings effectively using visualizations, dashboards, and presentations with the goal of optimizing business decisions and outcomes.

Engages with business leaders and staff to clarify needs and define business requirements for data analysis; where possible, anticipates and proposes opportunities for analysis and exploration in support of business optimization and decision-making

Analyzes complex business problems and issues using operational and financial data from multiple sources to provide insight to decision-makers

Performs data exploration, analysis, and statistical inference to identify and interpret trends and patterns in datasets and detect influences, opportunities, and risks

Develops forecasts, regression models, what-if scenarios and recommendations in consultation with leaders to support strategic/tactical planning and operational decision-making

Creates dashboards, visualizations, and reports to support business performance monitoring, automating where possible, to support stakeholders' ability to be data-driven

Creates presentations that intuitively communicate insights for business leaders and colleagues in order to advance the collective intelligence of the organization

Works collaboratively with the enterprise analytics & information management team to articulate business needs for new/revised data models and views/access to the data

Contributes to data inventory and stewardship efforts, including contributions to metadata management, data profiling, data quality remediation and data cleansing

Maintains high standards and adheres to all enterprise policies and guidelines regarding data security and privacy, data management, data quality and data governance; regards data as an enterprise asset that is to be protected and used both strategically and appropriately

Job Specifications

Typically Has The Following Skills Or Abilities

• Bachelor's degree in statistics, analytics, mathematics, economics, computer science, or related functional area; or equivalent experience


• 4+ years of demonstrated data analytics experience including experience querying and analyzing operational and/or financial data, generating insights and communicating those effectively with colleagues and leaders


• Prior experience in successfully executing analytics projects in one or more of the following domains/business functions: Financial Management and Forecasting, Risk Assessment, Insurance Utilization & Pricing, Supply Chain Optimization, Retail Management, eCommerce Management, Consumer Behavior Analysis, Marketing Optimization or Healthcare Management


• Experience building complex data queries using SQL in order to join, filter, cleanse, and aggregate data; understanding of how GUI-driven applications apply SQL concepts to do the same


• Experience creating effective data visualizations/dashboards that intuitively highlight trends and patterns, with the ability to monitor business performance against KPIs


• Experience using data exploration and analysis platforms such as Cognos Analytics, Tableau, SAS, or similar


• Familiarity with data modeling concepts and relational database structures


• Strategic skills, business acumen and curiosity to support envisioning work, program planning and strategic partnerships


• Ability to analyze and document business requirements, inclusive of needs and expectations


• Flexible and able to quickly and effectively change priorities and direction


• Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, and analytical skills


• Remains current in the field, including learning new techniques, approaches, and software available


• Expert-level skills in Excel

Compensation range for the role is listed below. Applicable salary ranges may differ across markets. Actual pay will be determined based on experience and other job-related factors permitted by law. Salary Ranges: $63,000.00 - $108,675.00
