Job summary

The Planet Group in Dallas is seeking a Senior Business Analyst to support a backend reporting and data analytics environment within a Databricks-based data warehouse. This contract role runs 9–12 months with hybrid work, onsite Tue-Thu, and close collaboration with data engineers, product owners, and QA teams.

You will translate business needs into actionable user stories, maintain the product backlog, participate in Agile ceremonies, write SQL queries, and support UAT.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of Business Analyst experience.
• Sole/primary BA with ownership of a product.
• 2+ years Agile/Scrum or XP Business Analysis experience.
• Strong experience creating and managing user stories, acceptance criteria, and product backlogs.
• Ability to independently lead or facilitate user story refinement within Scrum teams.
• Hands-on experience writing SQL queries, including basic queries and joins.
• Experience with Azure DevOps (ADO) or a similar requirements/project management platform.
• Excellent business requirements elicitation, analysis, documentation, and stakeholder communication skills.
• Strong understanding of data analytics, data warehousing, and/or Big Data concepts.
• Experience supporting testing activities and familiarity with testing methodologies and UAT.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a liaison between end users, product management, business stakeholders, and development teams to elicit, analyze, and document business requirements and translate them into user stories.
• Partner with the Product Owner and stakeholders to maintain a healthy, prioritized product backlog.
• Facilitate and actively participate in Agile ceremonies, including sprint planning and user story refinement.
• Lead requirements discussions and ensure user stories are clear, complete, and ready for development.
• Conduct gap analyses and identify practical, cost-effective solutions that meet business requirements.
• Collaborate with developers and technical teams to ensure solutions and designs align with customer and business requirements.
• Provide timely clarification and support to development and QA teams throughout design, development, and testing.
• Develop SQL queries to retrieve and validate application data, investigate discrepancies, and assist with issue triage.
• Support business stakeholders and end users during User Acceptance Testing (UAT), helping identify and evaluate options for resolving issues.
• Partner with business owners and technical architects to define product direction, establish scope, and support project planning.
• Work with the Product Owner, Project Manager, Lead Developer, and business partners to prioritize work and coordinate delivery.
• Translate business and reporting needs into clear requirements for data and analytics solutions.
