Job summary

Prestonwood Baptist Church, Inc. in Plano, TX seeks a Chief Building Engineer to lead operation and maintenance of building systems across campus facilities.

You will oversee central plant performance, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, BAS, and life-safety systems, driving reliability and energy efficiency. The role requires strong troubleshooting, leadership, and budget-management skills, with flexibility for weekend shifts and emergencies.

Qualifications

• Associate or bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, Building Systems, or related equivalent experience.
• EPA 608 and Universal CFC, BOMI certifications or equivalent.
• Advanced knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, BAS, and life-safety systems.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership for central plant reliability, optimization, troubleshooting, and asset stewardship.
• Manage chillers, boilers, cooling towers, heat exchangers, and water treatment systems.
• Monitor equipment performance, troubleshoot failures, and implement improvements.
• Conduct inspections and maintain records of mechanical rooms, equipment, and building systems.
• Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, technical drawings, and engineering reports.
• Manage preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
• Assist with lifecycle planning, equipment replacement, retrofits, and modernization projects.
• Oversee Building Automation Systems (BAS) and energy management platforms.
• Identify opportunities to improve energy efficiency to reduce operating costs.
• Monitor utility consumption and meter readings.
• Oversee water treatment programs for cooling towers and closed-loop systems.
• Maintain required permits, inspections, and regulatory documentation and ensure compliance with applicable safety, environmental, and operational standards.
• Assist in developing and managing the engineering operating budget and capital projects.
• Lead and develop mechanical staff by assigning work, establishing priorities, and setting goals.
• Ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
• Lead training for HVAC equipment, controls, and building systems.
• Provide immediate response and operational leadership during outages, severe weather, emergencies, and equipment failures.
