Job summary

The City of Rowlett is seeking a qualified Building Inspector who will supervise building inspections across residential and commercial projects for code compliance. The role includes reviewing plans, issuing permits, and guiding staff.

The position supports a 4-day work week with standard hours and a strong pension program. Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED and at least four years of related construction field experience, with a valid Texas driver’s license and licensing

Qualifications

• Knowledge of commercial and residential building, electrical, plumbing, mechanical and safety rules.
• Knowledge of building code enforcement practices and procedures.
• Familiarity with plan review and code compliance processes.
• Ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders and inspectors.
• Valid driver’s license and safe driving record.

Responsibilities

• Oversee on-site building inspections for safety and code compliance.
• Review residential/commercial plans for code compliance and issue permits.
• Assist in plan review of commercial plumbing, HVAC and related systems.
• Maintain inspection records and respond to inquiries from stakeholders.
• Provide guidance and supervision to junior staff; cover for Building Official as needed.
