Job summary

The City of Homestead is hiring for a Chief Building Inspector role to oversee enforcement of the Florida Building Code and related regulations. You will review plans, perform field inspections, and supervise the department's plan review and inspection services.

Qualified candidates will hold relevant Florida licenses or be able to obtain them within a year, and pass a background check. In-person, full-time work with essential personnel status is required.

Qualifications

• Must hold Florida professional licenses as listed or achieve within 12 months.
• Requires knowledge of Florida Building Code, Miami-Dade County Code, and local regulations.
• Background screening is required.

Responsibilities

• Reviews building plans, blueprints, specs, and materials for compliance with codes.
• Conducts field inspections during construction and use.
• Inspects buildings under demolition or alteration for safety and compliance.
• Reviews permits and inspections for Certificates of Occupancy or Completion.
• Coordinates inspections and provides supervision of plan review and inspection services.
• Performs duties within City safety rules and regulations.
• May present code violation cases to the Code Compliance Special Master.
• Responds to electronic correspondence and phone inquiries about projects and permits.

Registered Professional Engineer (FL)

Registered Architect (FL)

Certified General Contractor

Building Code Administrator License within 1 year
