Job summary

City of Tigard is seeking a Building Inspector II to inspect residential, commercial, and industrial projects for code compliance. The role involves evaluating foundations, framing, electrical, plumbing, life safety, and related elements.

Expect typical hours 7:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m., Monday–Friday, with SEIU representation. The city offers health/dental plans, retirement, HRA-VEBA, paid leave, holidays, and transit benefits.

Qualifications

• Three years of responsible experience inspecting residential, commercial, or industrial buildings.
• Minimum six months of verifiable commercial/industrial independent inspection experience.
• Oregon Inspector Certificate (OIC) required.

Responsibilities

• Performs field inspections of new and existing properties for conformance to codes, regulations, plans, specs, and standards.
• Performs final inspections on new residential and commercial projects.
• Confers with developers, engineers, architects, and owners regarding code requirements and alternatives.
• Inspects buildings for completeness, accuracy, and code compliance for new construction, alterations, or remodeling.
• Writes stop-work orders for work without permits or unsafe work.
