Job summary

Salt Lake City Corporation is seeking a Building Inspector III (or lower) to inspect residential, industrial, and commercial sites for code compliance. The role requires independent field work, and the successful candidate will handle multiple inspections at a single site.

The ideal candidate has 1+ year post-high-school education in a construction-related field and relevant inspection experience, plus ICC certifications and Utah licensing considered a plus.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of city building and zoning codes, including Building, Plumbing, Electrical, and Zoning rules.
• Ability to communicate effectively with business owners, citizens, and groups.
• Mathematical calculations such as volumes, areas, and percentages.

Responsibilities

• Inspect residential, industrial, and commercial sites for code compliance.
• Investigate housing and zoning complaints and outline needed changes.
• Prepare written evidence for potential legal action and issue notices when needed.
• Interpret codes for contractors and the public and recommend necessary alterations.
• Maintain records of inspections and re-inspections.
