Job summary

Salt Lake City Corporation is seeking a Building Inspector III to inspect residential, industrial, and commercial structures for code compliance, interpreting applicable codes for contractors and the public.

Ideal candidates may hold ICC certifications and Utah Limited Inspector license, with experience in inspection, plan review, or code enforcement. The role offers full-time hours, a 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. schedule, and comprehensive city benefits.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of city building and zoning codes including Building, Plumbing, Mechanical Codes, NEC and zoning ordinances.
• Ability to communicate effectively with business owners, citizens, and groups of various backgrounds.
• Ability to perform mathematical calculations such as volumes, areas, and percentages.

Responsibilities

• Inspects residential, industrial, and commercial sites for code compliance.
• Interprets building codes for contractors and the public.
• Issues Stop Work orders or citations when needed.
• Maintains inspection records and coordinates re-inspections.
• Works with architects, engineers, and developers regarding standards.
