Job summary

City of Grimes (IA) seeks a Senior Building Inspector under the Building Official to review plans and ensure compliance with building, fire, electrical, plumbing, and related codes. You will consult with designers, architects, engineers, developers, and the public, perform field inspections, issue permits, and assist with enforcement of the Grimes Code of Ordinances.

Applicants should have a high school diploma and at least five years in building trades, plus ICC certifications; a valid Iowa

Qualifications

• High school graduate with 5 years' experience in building trades or municipal infrastructure construction.
• Strong knowledge of construction codes, standards, and enforcement procedures.
• Ability to read plans and calculations and communicate with varied stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Review building plans and permit applications for code compliance.
• Assist with evaluation of compliant installations in residential, commercial, industrial, and other buildings.
• Consult with designers, engineers, and the public on code interpretations and permit processes.
• Perform field inspections to ensure compliance and issue permits as needed.
• Provide zoning inspections and underground utility location support.
• Issue certificates of occupancy and manage assigned projects.
