Job summary

The City of Gainesville is seeking a supervisory Building Inspector team lead to direct and coordinate field inspections for adherence to the Florida Building Code and Florida Fire Prevention Code. You will ensure enforcement of city ordinances and state statutes, guiding inspectors and interpreting complex codes.

Qualifications include ten years of trades experience with at least two years in a supervisory role, valid Florida licenses for inspection and plans examination, and a municipal fire

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma and ten (10) years of progressively responsible trades related work experience in construction for multiple trades, with at least two (2) years supervisory.
• Valid driver license required at start; Florida license within 30 days and maintained.
• Current Florida Standard Inspector License in Building, Electrical, Mechanical, or Plumbing.
• Current Florida Standard Plans Examiner License in Building, Electrical, Mechanical, or Plumbing.
• Current Municipal Fire Inspector certification.

Responsibilities

• Supervises and coordinates work of subordinates ensuring daily inspection coverage.
• Determines staffing, promotes selection, and handles disciplinary actions per policies.
• Coordinates training and continuing education for licensure.
• Acts as a resource for code interpretations and structural assessments.
• Investigates citizen/contractor complaints about code compliance and permits.
