Job summary

The ideal candidate has an associate degree, five years in fire inspection or code enforcement, and supervisory experience; Florida standards and CPR/ICS certifications are preferred.

Qualifications

• Requires an Associate's Degree in a related field and five years of progressively responsible experience in fire inspection, plan review, or code enforcement, including two years in a supervisory or lead role.
• Preferred Florida State Firefighter Minimum Standards and fire safety inspector certifications.

Responsibilities

• Supervises, schedules, and reviews the work of Fire Inspectors.
• Performs field inspections of buildings during construction.
• Conducts plan reviews and recommends corrective actions.
• Conducts complex inspections including post-fire evaluations.
• Leads notification procedures for eminent danger.
• Ensures reporting, recordkeeping, and case management compliance.
• Conducts building plan review, demolition inspections, and citations.
• Enforces fire prevention codes impartially.
• Evaluates fire protection elements for code compliance.
• Prepares reports and violation notices.
• Coordinates with engineers, architects, and contractors on fire safety.
• Maintains updates to Florida Fire Prevention Code and NFPA standards.
• Provides technical information to the public.
• Represents the Fire Marshal's Office in meetings and public forums.
• Fosters positive employee relations.
