Job summary

Hall County Government in Gainesville, GA is seeking a Building Inspector to conduct onsite inspections of residential and commercial projects, enforce building codes and local ordinances, and respond to citizen inquiries.

This full-time position requires a high school diploma, 6 months of inspector experience, blueprints reading ability, valid Georgia driver's license, and the ability to obtain ICC and other certifications within 12–6 months.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Six months’ experience as a Licensed Tradesman or an Inspector.
• Ability to read blueprints, maps, and technical drawings.
• Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the minimum qualifications.
• Current Georgia Driver’s License and a satisfactory MVR.
• Ability to achieve ICC Residential Building Code Certification within 6 months.
• Ability to achieve Residential Plumbing, Mechanical, and Electrical inspector certifications within one year.
• Knowledge of relevant laws, codes, ordinances, regulations, and department policies.

Responsibilities

• Inspects assigned projects throughout the life of the permit.
• Patrol district enforcing code violations and erosion control.
• Investigate complaints related to building code requirements.
• Communicate with builders and homeowners about code violations.
• Prepare reports, databases, and files of inspections and stop work orders.
• Respond to inquiries and schedule inspections.
• Testify at appeal hearings and in court.
• Operate assigned county vehicle.
• Maintain regular attendance.
