Job summary

ABM Industries is seeking a Lead Building Engineer in San Diego, CA to perform maintenance across carpentry, electrical, HVAC and plumbing. The role supports facilities operations and safety, using a range of power tools and coordinating with other trades.

You will prioritize work orders, document deficiencies, and ensure reliable, energy-efficient systems. The position requires HS diploma and 2–5 years in maintenance, with strong communication and data entry skills, on-site work.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED required.
• 2 years commercial, industrial, or healthcare maintenance experience.
• 5 years commercial, industrial, or healthcare maintenance experience.
• Ability to communicate and collaborate with facility personnel.
• Ability to handle computer data entry input.
• Knowledge of electrical, plumbing, carpentry, mechanical and general maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Carpentry duties: install shelving, repair windows, blinds, ceilings.
• Electrical duties: switches, reset breakers, bulbs and ballasts.
• HVAC duties: check thermostats and calls.
• Light plumbing repairs: washers, valves, shutoffs.
• General maintenance for facility personnel and equipment.
• Use power tools and assist in emergencies.
• Coordinate with supervisors to solicit needed trades.
• Submit deficiency reports and file work orders.
• Inspect and ensure safe, energy-efficient operations.
• Operate via work order system on tablets.
• Prioritize requests and communicate delays.
• Maintain clean, safe work areas and comply with safety rules.
• Report OSHA violations and follow safe practices.
• May drive vehicle; license checks apply.
• Handle multiple priorities and work under pressure.
• Maintain professional environment and teamwork.
• Support inspections by authorities as needed.
