Job summary

Hobbs Brook Real Estate is seeking a Chief Building Engineer to lead the engineering and facilities operations of a multi-building Class A office portfolio in Waltham, MA. You will oversee daily operations, maintenance, and capital projects to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality building performance.

The role partners with property management, asset management, and internal teams to drive service, risk management, and sustainability while meeting HBRE/FM standards and regulatory

Qualifications

• 10+ years of related technical experience in HVAC, electrical, plumbing or similar trades.
• 4+ years in a leadership or supervisory role.
• Strong knowledge of MEP systems and building automation in Class A offices.
• Experience operating BMS and energy-saving software.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day operations, repair, maintenance, and replacement of mechanical, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire/life safety, and building systems across a Class A office portfolio.
• Lead, motivate, train, and develop engineering and facilities staff while addressing performance and vendor issues as needed.
• Manage building management systems and preventative maintenance programs to support efficient operations and sustainability objectives.
• Engage and manage vendors, contractors, and consultants for MEP, life safety, and capital projects.
• Partner with property management, construction, EHS, finance, legal, and vendors to support operations and regulatory compliance.
• Assist with annual operating and capital budgets, forecasts, and expense management.
• Review invoices and contracts for proper documentation per procedures.
• Support emergency preparedness and training for engineering staff.
• Participate in capital and tenant improvement projects from commissioning to operations.
