Job summary

Datadog is seeking a senior software engineer for the Language Tools team in a hybrid Boston-area office. You will own projects end-to-end, influencing the roadmap by understanding Datadog developers’ needs and delivering scalable build, test, and packaging tooling.

We value Bazel expertise and broad language knowledge (Go, Python, Java, Rust, TypeScript) and expect you to improve usability for hundreds of engineers while handling large codebases.

Qualifications

• Expert in Bazel and the listed languages.
• Broad understanding of software projects built, tested, and packaged with our tools.
• Careful yet fearless; able to make high-impact changes.
• User-focused to improve usability and reduce support needs.
• Experience with a large codebase is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Invent build, test and packaging tools that are simpler and more reliable.
• Push performance and cost efficiency at scale, improving CI.
• Treat CI like SREs treat prod; keep pipelines green and fast.
• Prepare, run, and finish complex migrations.
• Contribute back to Bazel ecosystem, upstreaming fixes and features.
