City of Norfolk, VA is hiring an Accountant IV in the Budget and Accounting Division. The role involves producing financial reports in accordance with US GAAP, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local guidelines, and maintaining general and subsidiary ledgers.

The position also prepares annual budgets and supports audits. The role requires a Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field and at least three years of accounting experience in local government or nonprofit sectors,

Qualifications

• Work requires broad knowledge in a general professional or technical field; typically four years of college leading to a Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
• Three years of accounting experience in local government, nonprofit, or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsabilités

• Prepares financial reports, including monthly and annual reports and historical statements; prepares budget reports and analyzes variances.
• Monitors debt service, ensures payments align with bonds and contracts; maintains records of debts, grants and projects.
• Performs general accounting tasks: reconciliations, adjustments, and support to staff reconciling accounts.
• Maintains fixed assets records and proper GAAP recording of asset transactions.
• Prepares cash flow projections to aid management in operating and capital decisions.
• Oversees budget activity and recommends expenditures; leads and trains staff as needed.
