Job summary

City of Austin is seeking a budget and financial analyst to support departmental budgets, CIP forecasting, and debt management. You will prepare analyses, monitor variances, and provide management with financial insights. Strong Excel modeling and data gathering are essential.

The role requires a bachelor’s in finance, accounting, or economics with four years of related experience. Master’s or CPA substitutions apply for experience. Salary will be based on experience and city policies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or Economics, plus four years of related experience.
• Master's degree may substitute for two years of experience.
• A five-year accounting degree or CPA designation may substitute for one year of experience.

Responsibilities

• Assists with development of operating and CIP budgets and analyzes budget variance.
• Performs budget analysis and monitors current year estimates and forecasts.
• Prepares financial analyses and ad-hoc reports from financial systems.
• Manages debt service schedules.
• Supports CIP projects and fund summaries for management.
• Maintains spreadsheets/models and provides data for reporting.
• Verifies transactions and ensures compliance with policies and laws.
