Job summary

BDI BRIDGE DIAGNOSTICS in Austin, TX, is seeking a Senior Engineer for bridge load rating and structural evaluation. The role combines hands-on load rating work with technical leadership of staff engineers and mentoring toward PE licensure.

The successful candidate will perform LRFR/LFR/ASR ratings, develop FE models, and contribute to diagnostics and preservation projects across varied field conditions. Travel up to 25% is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil or structural engineering from an ABET-accredited program (Master’s preferred).
• 6+ years of bridge load rating and structural evaluation experience, including AASHTOWare Bridge Rating.
• Licensed Professional Engineer in Texas and Louisiana, or the ability to become licensed in both states within six months.
• Willingness to travel up to 25% (out-of-state and overnight visits).
• Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).
• Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
• Ability to lift at least 50 lbs and work in varied field conditions.

Responsibilities

• Develop, check, and seal load ratings per AASHTO and client specs.
• Perform LRFR, LFR, and ASR ratings including loads.
• Develop and calibrate finite element models for complex structures.
• Lead day-to-day technical work of staff engineers.
• Review calculations and reports; mentor engineers toward PE licensure.
• Lead in-depth structural evaluations and prepare preservation recommendations.
• Support proposals and client interviews with technical content.
