Job summary

BDI in Austin, TX is seeking a Senior Engineer focused on bridge load rating and structural evaluation. This hands-on role requires you to perform load rating and evaluation work, mentor junior staff, and lead technical delivery across projects.

You will work with state DOT clients nationwide, apply AASHTO standards, develop finite element models, and help shape our national load rating program while balancing field and office work.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited civil/structural degree; master's preferred
• 6+ years bridge load rating and structural evaluation
• Licensed Professional Engineer in Texas and Louisiana
• Willingness to obtain comity licenses; NCEES Record preferred
• Proficient with Microsoft Office
• Willingness to travel up to 25%
• Ability to lift 50 lbs and endure moderate physical activity
• Valid driver’s license

Responsibilities

• Develop, check, and seal load ratings per MB E and client specs
• Perform LRFR, LFR, and ASR ratings incl loads
• Incorporate deterioration into load ratings
• Develop and calibrate finite element models for complex structures
• Recommend load postings and evaluate critical findings
• QC/QA of load rating models, calculations, and reports
• Oversee day-to-day technical work of staff engineers
• Review staff calculations, models, and reports
• Mentor staff toward PE licensure
• Develop internal load rating procedures and QC checklists
• Lead technical delivery and coordinate with PMs and clients
• Lead in-depth structural evaluations and preservation work
• Prepare technical memoranda and reports
