Responsibilities

What you'll be challenged to do:

Gannett Fleming TranSystems is excited to announce we are seeking a Senior Bridge Engineer Project Manager specializing in Bridge Design and/or Inspection to help lead our bridge team.

Primary Responsibilities:

  1. Monitor project budgets to ensure they are used appropriately for progress during the project.
  2. Assist with preparation of Technical and Price Proposals.
  3. Identify work that is beyond the required Scope of Services and prepare Change Order Requests before expending person-hours.
  4. Develop Progress Reports and review invoices for completeness and accuracy.
  5. Make confident and timely decisions.
  6. Direct client, sub-consultant, and in-house staff coordination utilizing excellent communication skills, both verbally and written.
  7. Lead and mentor staff. Continuously monitoring staff’s work to ensure progress of acceptable design practices.
  8. Plan, organize and effectively utilize people, resources, and materials within WBCM’s bridge group and with other technical disciplines such as the Highway and Water Resources groups.
  9. Anticipate and mitigate conflicts/issues and complete projects within the budget, while satisfying Client’s expectations.
  10. Monitor work of Sub-Consultants to ensure completion of work on time and within budget, including technical review of their work.
  11. Design of structural components of bridges, box culverts, retaining walls, and related transportation-related structures.
  12. Preparation of design plans, cost estimates and specifications for bridge and transportation projects.
  13. Perform bridge inspections in accordance with National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS).
  14. Prepare and review bridge inspection reports.
  15. Perform load rating analyses in accordance with AASHTO Manual for Bridge Evaluation based on as-built or as-inspected conditions.
  16. Review Plans, Specifications, and Estimates at various milestones to ensure completeness and accuracy of work. Provide technical design direction throughout the project life cycle.
  17. Perform construction phase services including field visits and review of Contractor’s submittals and RFIs.
  18. Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QA/QC) reviews of technical reports, contract documents, or proposals prepared by others.
  19. Enhance expertise through continued learning.
  20. Actively participate in professional and/or technical organizations.
  21. Mentor, train, and supervise Design Engineers.
  22. Maintain current Professional Engineering licenses in good standing.

Qualifications

What you bring to our firm:

  1. B.S. in Civil Engineering.
  2. 10 years of experience in bridge inspection and/or bridge design including preparation of construction documents.
  3. Licensed Professional Engineer. Maryland PE License preferred. If not currently in possession of a MD PE, willingness, and ability to acquire MD PE within six (6) months of hire.
  4. FHWA NHI Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges training.
  5. Understanding of various design codes such as AASHTO, ACI, AISC, NDS, etc.
  6. Knowledgeable in computer programs such as Merlin Dash, LEAP Bridge, MIDAS, STAAD, L-Pile, etc.
  7. Understanding of and experience utilizing CADD software including MicroStation and AutoCAD.
  8. Excellent time management and written & oral communication skills.
  9. Ability to work through assigned tasks/projects independently and timely.
  10. Willingness to work with and learn from Bridge teammates of all levels.
  11. Design/Inspection experience within Maryland and with local agencies.
  12. Ability to understand and interpret client and regulatory requirements to ensure successful project completion.
  13. Ability to work on multiple projects in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  14. Ability to grow to the next level of leadership and success.
  15. Team oriented and self-motivated.
  16. Valid Driver’s License and reliable transportation.
  17. Actively engages multiple perspectives when solving problems, seeks to learn from peers, and encourages reciprocal learning among team members.
