Job summary

Benesch’s Wilkes-Barre office is seeking a Senior Bridge Engineer. The candidate will be a licensed PE in Pennsylvania with at least 8 years of bridge design, load rating, and inspection experience, preferably with PennDOT/PTC. Hybrid work from Wilkes-Barre, PA is available, with a focus on complex and engaging projects.

The role emphasizes mentoring, collaboration with project managers, and ensuring quality in design calculations, load ratings, inspections, and coordination across teams.

Qualifications

• B.S. Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
• PE License in Pennsylvania or ability to obtain via reciprocity.
• Certified Bridge Safety Inspector (CBSI) preferred but not required.
• Minimum 8 years of bridge design, load rating, and inspection experience.
• Experience with PennDOT, District 4-0, PTC or municipalities.
• Strong communication and client relations skills.
• Experience developing contracts and using MicroStation Connects, Open Roads and Open Bridge Design software.
• Strong organizational and leadership skills with budgeting and scheduling experience.
• Ability to perform complex analysis and assemble complete design packages.

Responsibilities

• Serve as lead engineer on bridge replacement and rehabilitation projects.
• Mentor junior staff and develop the structural team in the Wilkes-Barre office.
• Prepare and review structural and geometrical calculations for bridge design.
• Coordinate plans, specs, cost estimates, and pay items per PennDOT/PTC standards.
• Prepare and review bridge load rating reports to design standards.
• Plan and perform bridge inspections per standards.
• Coordinate tasks with the Project Manager and lead designers.
• Ensure independent QC reviews on design work.
