Responsibilities

• Lead the design, analysis, and rehabilitation of highway and railway bridge structures
• Prepare and review structural calculations, specifications, reports, quantities, and construction documents
• Serve as the lead structural engineer on bridge replacement, rehabilitation, and preservation projects
• Perform and oversee structural modelling using industry-standard bridge engineering software
• Coordinate multidisciplinary project teams including roadway, geotechnical, drainage, traffic, utilities, and construction engineering
• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership across bridge design projects
• Manage technical quality, budgets, schedules, and project deliverables
• Attend client meetings and develop strong relationships with public-sector agencies

Overview

A well-established multidisciplinary engineering consultancy is seeking a Senior Bridge Engineer to join its expanding transportation structures team in Chicago, Illinois. The firm delivers complex bridge, highway, and transportation infrastructure projects for IDOT, the Illinois Tollway, CDOT, Metra, counties, municipalities, and other public-sector agencies throughout Illinois and the Midwest.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced bridge engineer to play a key role in delivering major transportation infrastructure projects while mentoring junior engineers and supporting the continued growth of a highly respected structures practice. The role offers involvement in every phase of project delivery, from planning and preliminary engineering through final design and construction support.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design, analysis, and rehabilitation of highway and railway bridge structures
• Prepare and review structural calculations, specifications, reports, quantities, and construction documents
• Serve as the lead structural engineer on bridge replacement, rehabilitation, and preservation projects

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
• 8+ years of bridge engineering experience
• Professional Engineer (PE) license required
• Structural Engineer (SE) license preferred, or ability to obtain
• Experience delivering transportation infrastructure projects for IDOT, Illinois Tollway, CDOT, Metra, or municipal clients
• Extensive experience designing steel and reinforced/prestressed concrete bridges
• Proficiency with software such as OpenBridge Designer, OpenBridge Modeler, LEAP Bridge, CSiBridge, SAP2000, LARSA 4D, MIDAS Civil, MDX, or similar
• Strong working knowledge of AASHTO LRFD, IDOT Bridge Manual, and relevant Illinois bridge design standards
• Experience leading multidisciplinary bridge design teams
• Excellent communication, leadership, and client management skills
• Base salary between $130,000 – $170,000 depending on experience
