Job summary

TYG is seeking a Senior Bridge Engineer to lead design, analysis, and rehabilitation of highway structures across the Washington, D.C. and Baltimore metropolitan areas.

You will mentor junior engineers and collaborate with project managers and clients to deliver high-quality solutions on complex transportation projects. The role requires 8+ years of bridge experience, a PE license, and proficiency with major bridge design software.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • 8+ years of bridge engineering experience.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
  • SE license or ability to obtain is advantageous.
  • Experience delivering transportation infrastructure projects for public-sector clients.
  • Extensive experience with steel and reinforced/prestressed concrete bridges.

Responsibilities

  • Lead design, analysis, and rehabilitation of highway structures.
  • Prepare and review structural calculations, reports, specifications, quantities, and construction documents.
  • Serve as lead structural engineer on bridge projects and provide inspection support.
  • Model structures using industry-standard software.

Overview

A well-established multidisciplinary engineering consultancy is seeking a Senior Bridge Engineer to join its growing transportation structures team, supporting projects across the Washington, D.C. and Baltimore metropolitan areas. The firm delivers complex bridge, structural, and transportation infrastructure projects for DDOT, MDOT SHA, VDOT, WMATA, local municipalities, counties, and other public-sector agencies throughout the Mid-Atlantic region.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced bridge engineer looking to take a technical leadership role on a wide range of transportation infrastructure projects. You will lead bridge design and rehabilitation efforts, mentor junior engineers, and work closely with project managers and clients to deliver high-quality engineering solutions on complex, high-profile projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the design, analysis, and rehabilitation of highway and transportation structures
  • Prepare and review structural calculations, reports, specifications, quantities, and construction documents
  • Serve as the lead structural engineer on bridge replacement, rehabilitation, and inspection support projects
  • Perform and oversee structural modelling using industry-standard bridge engineering software
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary teams including roadway, geotechnical, hydraulics, traffic, utilities, and construction
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers and EITs
  • Participate in client meetings and help maintain strong relationships with public-sector agencies
  • Support project planning, scheduling, budgeting, and quality control
  • Contribute to proposal development, project pursuits, and business development initiatives
Requirements
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
  • 8+ years of bridge engineering experience
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required
  • SE license or the ability to obtain one is considered an advantage
  • Experience delivering transportation infrastructure projects for DDOT, MDOT SHA, VDOT, WMATA, or municipal clients
  • Extensive experience with steel and reinforced/prestressed concrete bridge design
  • Proficiency with software such as OpenBridge Designer, OpenBridge Modeler, LEAP Bridge, CSiBridge, SAP2000, LARSA 4D, MIDAS Civil, MDX, or similar
  • Strong working knowledge of AASHTO LRFD, MDOT SHA, DDOT, and/or VDOT bridge design standards
  • Experience leading design teams and coordinating multidisciplinary transportation projects
  • Strong communication, leadership, and client-facing skills
  • Base salary between $130,000 – $170,000 depending on experience
