Job summary

Nordstrom Williams is seeking a senior bridge engineer in the Charlotte area to lead design and design-build efforts across the Southeast. You will guide pursuits from concept through construction, ensuring constructability and alignment with the intended design.

In this role, you will mentor junior engineers, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and take ownership as Engineer of Record where appropriate. Relocation support is available for the right candidate.

Qualifications

• PE license required.
• Approximately 10+ years of bridge design experience.
• Exposure to design-build or contractor-side collaboration preferred.
• Experience with steel and concrete bridge types is a plus.
• Strong communication and independent work judgment.

Responsibilities

• Lead analysis and design of steel, prestressed concrete, and reinforced concrete structures.
• Serve as Engineer of Record or Engineer in Charge where appropriate.
• Engage in design-build pursuits: alternative concepts, quantities, schedules, and proposals.
• Contribute to value engineering, constructability reviews, and risk workshops.
• Shape project execution: scope, schedule, staffing, and technical approach.
• Oversee plans, calculations, specifications, takeoffs, and estimates.
• Collaborate with contractors, owners, and multidisciplinary teams.
• Mentor junior engineers and perform quality reviews.
• Help strengthen client relationships across the region.

Most bridge design seats hand the plans off and move on. On this one you stay with the project through construction.

A growing bridge group in the Charlotte market needs a senior engineer to lead design and design-build work across the Southeast. You'd be in on pursuits from the start — alternative concepts, quantities, schedules — and still involved when the structure is going up.

You'll work closely with the people who build the work, so your designs get challenged on constructability early and get built the way you intended.

What you'll be doing:

• Contribute to value engineering, constructability reviews, and risk workshops
• Shape project execution — scope, schedule, staffing, and technical approach
• Oversee plans, calculations, specifications, takeoffs, and estimates
• Work directly with contractors, owners, and multidisciplinary teams
• Mentor junior engineers and perform quality reviews
• Help strengthen client relationships across the region

What we're looking for:

• PE license
• Around 10 years or more of bridge design experience, with growing responsibility along the way
• Some exposure to design-build or contractor-side collaboration — if you've only done traditional design-bid-build but want to move this direction, still worth a conversation
• Design experience across steel and concrete bridge types
• Comfort with standard bridge analysis and design software
• State DOT experience anywhere in the Southeast is a plus
• Strong communication and the judgment to work independently
