Job summary

The Connecticut Department of Developmental Services operates the Southbury Training School and seeks a Stationary Engineer to operate, maintain and repair boiler room equipment, supporting a State of Connecticut facility with two shifts and flexible scheduling.

The role involves inspecting gauges, performing tests, managing water treatment, and assisting with related mechanical duties to ensure safe and reliable heating plant operations.

Qualifications

• Three (3) years of experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of steam boilers or of significant auxiliary boiler room or power plant equipment.
• Incumbents may be required to possess and retain appropriate licenses, permits and/or certifications.
• Adequate physical strength, stamina, and visual/auditory acuity are required.

Responsibilities

• Inspect boiler room gauges, indicators, charts and operation records; issue instructions.
• Perform tests and checks of facilities and equipment and make adjustments.
• Maintain and repair mechanical equipment and accessories in boiler room and related systems.
• Inspect and repair generating equipment, ice machinery, hot water heaters, pumps, fans, compressors, and other equipment.
• Make boiler water analyses and determine necessary treatment.
• Calculate and record operating data.
• Perform related duties as required.
