Job summary

Charles Schwab Corporation is seeking an experienced software engineer to join Schwab Technology Services’ Research & Development team. You will build full stack solutions, design and deploy smart contracts, and integrate tokenized assets with existing ledgers and order flows.

You will explore private blockchain networks, maintain security controls, and contribute to AI/ML and cloud-native initiatives within a hands-on incubator environment.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of professional software engineering experience with production ownership.
• 3+ years of blockchain development or related fields.
• Strong understanding of blockchain architectures (Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana) and crypto wallet infrastructure.
• Experience running blockchain infrastructure, including permissioned/consortium networks.
• Experience with secure wallet solutions and key management.
• Familiarity with tokenization of assets and smart contracts (ERC-20/721/1155).
• Proficiency in Solidity, Rust, Python, Go, or Java.
• Experience with cryptographic protocols, DeFi, and interoperability.

Responsibilities

• Explain complex technical ideas to business partners and bridge tech and strategy.
• Evaluate blockchain architectures, smart contract frameworks, and tokenization methodologies.
• Stay at the forefront of blockchain innovation, including DeFi and tokenized securities.
• Contribute to blockchain and digital assets strategy via whitepapers and internal education.
• Engage with industry consortia, regulators, and partners to identify trends.
• Build and operate permissioned EVM networks for experiments: validators, nodes, observability.
• Design, implement, test, deploy smart contracts for tokenized instruments.
• Implement on-chain compliance controls and evaluate token standards against regulatory requirements.
• Integrate chain activity with off-chain systems and reconciliation pipelines.
• Publish architecture comparison analyses to inform decisions.
• Document experiments with outcomes and recommended production changes.
• Collaborate with product, operations, risk, and compliance to test hypotheses.
• Support other R&D initiatives in AI/ML, cloud-native design, and digital identity/trust.
