Job summary

Charles Schwab is seeking a Blockchain Platform Architect to define enterprise-grade blockchain and digital asset platform architectures within the Technology Incubation group. You will collaborate with engineering, security, risk, legal, product, and business teams to balance innovation with Schwab's security and resiliency standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a technical field.
• 10+ years of software engineering experience delivering platforms or complex technology initiatives.
• Strong foundation in modern architectures and cloud-native development; ability to guide decisions.
• Ability to influence across organizational boundaries and collaborate with stakeholders.
• Excellent communication skills to align leaders and convey tradeoffs clearly.
• Deep experience designing and operating enterprise platforms, distributed systems, APIs, observability, resiliency, and DevSecOps practices.
• Strong understanding of blockchain fundamentals, distributed ledger technologies, cryptography, and tokenization.
• Experience applying security patterns such as authentication, authorization, encryption, key management, secrets management, and vulnerability management.
• Ability to produce practical architecture artifacts, decision frameworks, and implementation guidance in ambiguous spaces.
• Clear communication to influence engineers, architects, product partners, risk stakeholders, and senior leaders.

Responsibilities

• Own target-state architecture and technical roadmap for blockchain and digital asset platform capabilities.
• Design secure, scalable, fault-tolerant distributed systems for experimentation and production use.
• Evaluate blockchain protocols, node infrastructure, custody patterns, smart contracts, and data access models.
• Guide implementation, review designs, resolve tradeoffs, and establish reusable platform patterns.
• Ensure platform designs meet enterprise controls, regulatory expectations, and resilience requirements.
• Define architecture documentation, reference models, decision records, and graduation criteria.
• Translate architectural choices into business value, risk implications, investment needs, and adoption paths.
