Job summary

ASC Forensics in Flemington, NJ seeks a Senior Expert in Biomechanics to lead complex injury causation investigations and provide expert testimony at depositions and trials.

The role combines hands-on biomechanical analysis with mentoring of junior engineers, client relationship development, and strategic growth of the biomechanics practice; travel up to 25% may be required.

Qualifications

  • Significant experience in forensic biomechanics applied to litigation (7+ years).
  • Experience with injury causation analysis in motor vehicle, premises, and/or product liability matters.
  • Deposition and trial testimony as a legally admitted expert witness in biomechanics.
  • Strong technical writing skills with a record of producing authoritative reports.
  • Ability to communicate technical findings to attorneys, juries, and clients.
  • Knowledgeable in biomechanics software with willingness to learn programs used for frequent analyses (e.g., MADYMO).
  • Leadership experience guiding technical staff or multidisciplinary projects in forensic engineering or related fields.
  • Mentoring junior engineers, technicians, and interns.
  • PE license.
  • Published contributions to the field (peer-reviewed papers, conference presentations, or industry guidelines).
  • Teaching or training experience in professional development or CLE programs.

Our growth has created an opportunity to pioneer our Biomechanics division by adding a Senior Expert in Biomechanics to lead complex injury causation investigations and provide expert witness testimony at depositions and trials. The ideal candidate brings deep technical expertise, proven courtroom credibility, and the ability to mentor junior engineers/technicians while managing ongoing casework. This position offers the opportunity to shape the growth of ASC Forensics’ biomechanics practice. This position is NOT intended for individuals who do not envision a long-term future within the ASC family.

As ASC Forensics continues to expand, senior experts will have the opportunity to grow into Director-level roles, leading teams, managing client relationships, and shaping divisional strategy as we pursue our mission.

May require up to 25% travel.

Lead injury causation and other related biomechanical investigations across a wide variety of analysis types, from passenger vehicles to specialty vehicles and more, upholding a high degree of attention to detail and pride in work product.

Provide deposition and trial testimony as a qualified expert witness, presenting findings with clarity and authority.

Prepare clear, defensible reports and exhibits that stand up to scrutiny in litigation.

Collaborate with ASC Forensics’ multidisciplinary team to deliver integrated, case-wide analysis and solutions.

Mentor and support junior engineers, technicians, and interns, fostering technical growth and adherence to ASC’s standards.

Maintain professional development and technical expertise to ensure ASC remains at the forefront of forensic engineering practices.

Develop strong, long-term relationships with clients and internal technical staff.

Maintain strict scientific objectivity while working on a mix of plaintiff and defense matters.

Conduct inspections of vehicles, crash sites, and physical evidence using industry-standard methodologies and advanced tools.

Significant experience in forensic biomechanics applied to litigation (ideally 7+ years).

Demonstrated experience with injury causation analysis in motor vehicle, premises, and/or product liability matters.

Deposition and trial testimony experience as a legally admitted expert witness in biomechanics.

Strong technical writing skills with a record of producing authoritative reports.

Ability to communicate technical findings to non-technical audiences (attorneys, juries, clients). Must demonstrate remarkable verbal, written, and presentation skills and have strong interpersonal skills.

Knowledgeable in biomechanics software with a willingness to learn the programs used for frequent analyses (i.e., MADYMO).

Leadership experience guiding technical staff or managing multidisciplinary projects in forensic engineering or related fields.

Advanced academic background, such as a master’s or doctoral degree in Mechanical, Automotive, Electrical, Biomechanical, or a related engineering discipline.

Published contributions to the field (peer-reviewed papers, conference presentations, or industry guidelines) demonstrating thought leadership.

Teaching or training experience, whether through professional development courses, CLE programs, or mentoring, showing ability to educate both technical and legal audiences.

Technical versatility, with hands-on experience in a variety of biomechanical analyses.

Experience in product liability and automotive defect analysis.

Professional Engineer (PE) license.
