Abbott in La Jolla, CA seeks a Senior Bioinformatics Scientist to lead and contribute to complex R&D projects within Cancer Diagnostics. You will guide analyses, mentor junior scientists, and drive bioinformatics strategy, collaborating across teams to advance diagnostic assay development and related research.

Ideal candidates hold a PhD or equivalent experience with strong expertise in NGS, germline variant analysis, and ML applications in genomics; cloud and HPC experience preferred.

Qualifications

• PhD in bioinformatics or related field; or MS with 4 years experience; or BS with 6 years.
• 5+ years of experience in bioinformatics in industry or academia.
• 3+ years of experience in medical device/IVD, biotech, life science or pharmaceutical industry.
• Extensive experience in Linux-based HPC or cloud computing environments and associated tools.
• Experience with Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) and genomics.
• Proficiency in multiple programming/scripting languages.
• Experience with statistical software such as R or JMP.

Responsabilités

• Algorithm development to improve germline variant calling.
• Building bioinformatics pipeline prototypes to support germline sequencing.
• Development of Machine learning models to support variant classification and clinical significance predictions.
