Senior Bioinformatics Engineer - Cardiovascular Genomics

Job summary

UCSF Health seeks an experienced bioinformatician to design and implement analysis pipelines across cardiovascular genetics research. The role focuses on inherited cardiovascular diseases, gene regulation, and personalized genomic medicine, using RNA-seq, ATAC-seq, ChIP-Seq, spatial transcriptomics, and genome sequencing data.

You will work with principal investigators, develop computational tools, maintain infrastructure, and enable access to public and private databases.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in biological science, computational / programming, or related area and / or equivalent experience / training
• A minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience in bioinformatics or computational biology
• Thorough knowledge of bioinformatics programming design, modification and implementation in languages such as Python, R, and/or equivalents
• Understanding of relational databases, web interfaces, and operating systems
• Strong project management skills
• Thorough knowledge of modern biology and applicable field of research
• Communication skills to work with both technical and non-technical personnel
• Ability to interface with management on a regular basis
• Familiarity with cloud-based computing and high-performance computing environments
• Proven expertise in analyzing high-throughput sequencing datasets (RNA-seq, ATAC-seq, chromatin)

Responsibilities

• Design and implement analysis pipelines across computational biology projects
• Analyze bulk and single-cell multiomics, epigenomics, and imaging data
• Integrate datasets from UCSF and public repositories
• Develop and apply machine learning methods to biological data
• Collaborate with bench scientists and clinicians in a collegial environment
