Job summary

UCSF Health is seeking a Bioinformatics Programmer/Data Scientist to join our Cardiovascular and Human Genetics research efforts. You will manage the analysis of large-scale medical data, build analytic pipelines in R, Python, Go or SQL, and deploy tools in Docker across cloud and on‑premises environments.

Under the PI, you will work on data extraction, transformation, and loading, conduct biostatistical analyses, create reproducible code, and contribute to manuscripts and publications while

Qualifications

• Bioinformatics methods and data structures knowledge.
• Biostatistics knowledge and basic statistical testing.
• Systems programming and databases knowledge.
• Security concepts in data handling.
• 12+ months experience with medical/health data.
• Ability to manage time and meet deadlines.
• Fluent in R or Python for statistics.
• Experience building data pipelines for large-scale data.
• Lead and maintain real-time data pipelines.
• Self-motivated with problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Designs, develops, debugs and utilizes programs to extract, transform, and load data.
• Develops data pipelines to standardize and automate repeatable processing.
• Builds tools to extract imaging and medical data from clinical systems.
• Writes internal documentation and explains analyses clearly.
• Maintains cloud and on-premises computational infrastructure.
• Produces data visualizations and assists with publications.
