Job summary

Oxford Nanopore Technologies is seeking a Senior Technical Applications Scientist, Bioinformatics to support Technical Services across the Americas from the Northeast U.S. region. You will blend hands‑on troubleshooting with expert knowledge in long‑read bioinformatics workflows, mentoring, and building playbooks for faster issue resolution.

The role emphasizes prioritization and scalable support, with remote work within NY/NJ/CT/MA and occasional travel. A Ph.D.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. or equivalent experience in a life sciences field (Bioinformatics, Microbiology, Genomics, Molecular Biology).
  • Experience with Oxford Nanopore or other NGS bioinformatics workflows (long‑read sequencing) including base‑calling, alignment, and variant or marker calling.
  • Proficiency with data analysis and visualization using GUI tools and the command line; comfortable in Linux/Unix/Windows environments.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the first point of contact for bioinformatics support for key accounts, prioritizing questions across QC, base‑calling, alignment, workflow use, and interpretation.
  • Provide rapid, practical solutions using validated workflows and SOPs, while identifying issues requiring escalation.
  • Lead onboarding for strategic customers, service providers, and channel partners, including workflow training, tool selection, and guidance through the data generation‑to‑analysis pipeline.
  • Act as the bridge between customers, field teams, product support, and R&D by structuring escalation details and communicating resolutions clearly.
  • Support field teams with troubleshooting for strategic accounts, including workflow failures, unexpected sequencing outputs, and tool misconfigurations.
  • Identify recurring issues to improve documentation, knowledge base, and training materials.
  • Standardize bioinformatics support across AMR and global teams for consistent guidance and faster resolutions.
  • Mentor and onboard junior team members and provide guidance to the broader Technical Services organization.
