Job summary

GbILS is seeking a Senior Bioinformatician to serve as the technical lead for sequencing analytics, bioinformatics pipeline development, and computational infrastructure.

This role will provide scientific leadership in scalable workflows supporting national wastewater surveillance efforts and collaboration with epidemiologists, laboratory scientists, software engineers, and public health partners to translate complex sequencing data into actionable public health intelligence.

Qualifications

• 5–8 years of related experience in bioinformatics or computational biology.
• Advanced experience with Nextflow; familiarity with Snakemake and WDL.
• Expert proficiency in Python, R, Bash, and Perl in Linux/HPC environments.
• Containerization with Docker and Singularity.
• Experience with cloud platforms and scalable pipelines.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, validation, and maintenance of scalable bioinformatics workflows for wastewater sequencing analyses.
• Serve as subject matter expert for computational genomics and metagenomic analyses.
• Mentor junior bioinformaticians and ensure reproducibility and QA of analyses.
• Collaborate with epidemiologists, laboratorians, statisticians, and software developers on computational solutions.
• Develop and maintain cloud-based infrastructure for national surveillance data; optimize performance for high-volume data.
