Job summary

The Senior Biomedical Informatics Programmer at the BSD MED - General Internal Medicine department of the University of Chicago will design, optimize, and maintain production-grade pipelines connecting genomic, phenotypic, and clinical data to enable large-scale biobank studies. The role requires 7+ years of experience, strong programming in Python/R, and experience with genomic and EHR data formats.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related field is required.
• 7+ years of work experience in a related discipline.
• MS or PhD in bioinformatics, computer science, computational biology, or a related field preferred.

Responsibilities

• Optimize and maintain production-grade pipelines for GWAS and PheWAS analyses.
• Build computable phenotype algorithms by integrating EHR and survey data.
• Develop scripts and software to analyze diverse health-related datasets across multiple data sources.
• Provide programming and analytic support across informatics and genomics projects; create custom analysis scripts.
• Support computational infrastructure for studies of rare genetic variants and discovery of novel gene functions.
• Collaborate with scientists, clinicians, and analysts to ensure reliable, reproducible pipelines at biobank scale.
• Generate public use resources and contribute to web-based bioinformatics tools.
• Provide expertise on biomedical informatics concepts, applications, and tools.
• Perform other related work as needed.
