Job summary

Lancaster County is seeking a Senior Caseworker within the Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (BHDS) Intake unit. The role focuses on incarcerated adults with Serious Mental Illness, assisting transition back to the community and coordinating with prison, probation, courts and community resources.

The position emphasizes independent judgment, comprehensive intake assessments, and navigating multi-system services to support successful community reintegration.

Qualifications

• Two years of experience as a Caseworker for Lancaster County or
• Bachelor’s degree in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice or related field plus three years of professional social casework experience
• Equivalents with 12 college credits in related social sciences may be accepted

Responsibilities

• Develop collaborative relationships with prison staff to ensure BH services on release.
• Collaborate with hospital for inpatient support and liaison back to prison/community.
• Conduct intake interviews and needs assessments for service planning.
• Prepare referrals and authorizations for services and direct clients to appropriate levels of care.
• Maintain accurate consumer records and case files, write reports and histories.
• Advocate for consumers and coordinate with probation, courts and reentry organizations.
• Participate in staff meetings, trainings and multi-systemic forums.
