Job summary

AES is seeking a Senior BESS Product Safety Engineer to serve as a core technical authority for BESS safety architecture, ensuring designs meet fire codes and safety standards. You will oversee enclosure design, testing, and safety qualification across the design lifecycle. Travel is ~30% to support U.S.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Fire Protection Engineering or related discipline.
• 5-7 years of experience in mechanical design and fire protection for energy, industrial, or safety-critical systems.
• Strong working knowledge of BESS fire codes and standards (UL 9540/9540A, NFPA 68/69, NFPA 72, NFPA 855, NFPA 110/111).
• Experience with permitting, testing, and regulatory approval processes.
• Proficiency with CAD and safety modeling tools (SolidWorks, AutoCAD).

Responsibilities

• Interpret and apply NFPA, IFC, UL, and IEC standards to guide BESS product development and safety requirements.
• Review and approve mechanical drawings, CAD models, and diagrams.
• Own safety-critical BESS enclosure design and oversee prototype builds and testing.
• Provide oversight of UL 9540/9540A testing, fire modeling, and code compliance.
• Develop emergency response documentation and safety packages for project submittals and maintain Technical Data Packages.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to continuous improvement of BESS integration practices.
