Job summary

The AES Corporation, a leading US-based energy company, seeks a Senior BESS Product Safety Engineer in the Louisville, CO area. This role focuses on safety architecture, NFPA and UL compliance, and engineering oversight across the design lifecycle.

Expect ~30% travel to support US projects and possible international assignments; preferred location is Louisville, CO, with openness to other US candidates. Strong leadership and cross‑functional collaboration are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Fire Protection Engineering or related field.
• 5–7 years of experience in mechanical design and fire protection for energy or safety-critical systems.
• Knowledge of BESS fire codes and UL 9540/9540A, NFPA 68/69, 72, 855, 110/111.
• Experience with permitting, testing, and regulatory approvals.
• Proficiency with CAD and safety modeling tools.

Responsibilities

• Interpret NFPA, IFC, UL, and IEC standards to guide BESS product development.
• Review and approve mechanical drawings, layouts, and CAD models.
• Own safety-critical BESS enclosure design and requirements across design lifecycle.
• Provide oversight of UL 9540/9540A testing, fire modeling, and code compliance.
• Develop fire code compliance matrices and AHJ permitting docs.
• Mentor engineers and train internal teams.
• Lead emergency response documentation for project submittals.
• Engage in standards bodies and industry committees on BESS codes.
