Job summary

Virginia Department of Health is seeking a Benefits Administrator to oversee and administer Commonwealth benefit programs. The incumbent will conduct new hire benefits orientation and manage open enrollment and mid-year events.

The role acts as an SME in health benefits, retirement programs, and ACA reporting within the Benefits Center of Excellence, coordinating with HR staff and payroll teams. Strong policy interpretation and independent work are essential.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Commonwealth of Virginia HR policies, procedures, programs & practices including employee benefit programs.
  • Knowledge of federal & state employment law.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office to generate data, write reports, and prepare presentations.
  • Strong interpersonal and written communication skills with all management levels.
  • Ability to interpret personnel policies and guidelines.
  • Ability to work independently to prioritize work and meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and administer state benefits programs within the Benefits Center of Excellence.
  • Coordinate new hire benefits orientation, open enrollment and mid-year events.
  • Provide SME guidance on health benefits, retirement programs and ACA reporting.
  • Lead or supervise wage benefits staff and ensure proper training resources.
