Job summary

City of Corpus Christi is seeking a Gulf Beach Senior Lifeguard to oversee beach rescue operations on gulf beaches and respond to all dispatch calls within the City’s Gulf Beaches. The role ensures staff are trained, physically prepared, and ready to respond to emergencies, with a focus on preventative actions to keep beachgoers safe.

The position supervises seasonal staff, performs leadership duties, and supports the program manager with hiring, orientation, and training.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Two years lifeguard experience with at least one year as Open Water Lifeguard or one year as Lifeguard Supervisor or Instructor.
• Valid driver’s license; out-of-state candidates must obtain Texas license within 90 days.
• Ability to swim 500 meters (550 yards) in under 10 minutes.
• Ability to perform open water rescue and meet strenuous physical requirements.

Responsibilities

• Survey water and monitor beachgoers.
• Respond to medical emergencies on gulf beaches and during dispatch calls.
• Lead seasonal staff during the summer beach season.
• Assist management with interviewing, hiring, orientation, training, scheduling, and disciplinary actions for seasonal staff.
• Maintain fitness level required by USLA and develop training for staff during summer months.
• Provide water safety, first aid, traffic control, and supplies support during special events.
• Ensure all rescue equipment remains in top working condition.
• Operate jet skis and emergency vehicles with lights and sirens.
• Ensure equipment is cleaned and maintained to extend lifespan.
