Job summary

Ford Motor Company is seeking a Battery Management Controls Software Engineer to develop application-layer control software for a high-voltage battery system. You will focus on operating states, sequencing, protection, and thermal control while coordinating across multiple strings and controllers.

The role requires model-based development with production code generation and hands-on debugging with hardware, plus willingness to travel occasionally. Hybrid onsite work is expected.

Qualifications

• Must design state machines, sequencing, and diagnostic logic on a production program.
• Experience with model-based development and production code generation.
• Comfortable debugging control behavior on real hardware.

Responsibilities

• Develop and own operating state machines and mode management across controllers.
• Implement high-voltage sequencing, precharge, contactor operations, and diagnostics.
• Implement protection strategy for cell/pack voltages, currents, and temperatures.
• Compute current and power limits and arbitrate across system levels.
• Coordinate cell balancing across modules and strings.
• Develop thermal management control and diagnostics.
• Aggregate measured/estimated states and report faults.
• Own diagnostic strategy: detect, debounce, classify, store, and report faults.
• Calibrate estimation models and manage calibration parameters.
• Develop application software with model-based development and C as needed.
• Create requirements/design docs traceable to system requirements.
• Support validation, root cause analysis, and field issue resolution.
