Job summary

H-E-B is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design, build, and operate software automating lifecycle management of bare metal infrastructure across private cloud resources. You will support deployment pipelines, diagnose production issues, and contribute to system design, architecture, security, reliability, and performance.

You will lead projects, influence infrastructure automation strategy, and mentor engineers while maintaining high engineering standards and customer-focused delivery.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree, CS or equivalent.
• 5+ years of software development experience.
• Proficient in multiple programming languages, technologies and frameworks.
• Advanced knowledge in system and data architecture, data modeling, and design patterns.
• Experience reviewing platform designs for performance and sustainability.
• Experience with Git, Jira, and Confluence.
• Understanding of development methodologies and processes.
• Experience developing and operating infrastructure-as-code using Ansible, Terraform, or similar.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate software that automates lifecycle management of bare metal infrastructure.
• Maintain services for hardware inventory, asset management, firmware upgrades, and OS deployment.
• Create automated hardware validation, diagnostics, remediation, and recovery solutions to improve resilience, availability, and efficiency.
• Drive observability initiatives for physical infrastructure (metrics, logging, tracing, alerting).
• Develop APIs, tools, and workflows that enable self-service infrastructure operations.
• Develop testing frameworks and CI/CD pipelines to ensure software quality and deployment consistency.
• Lead projects from inception through deployment and operational ownership.
• Influence technical strategy for infrastructure automation and platform modernization through architectural reviews and design discussions.
• Promote engineering excellence through code reviews, documentation, knowledge sharing.
• Mentor engineers and provide technical guidance on architecture and best practices.
