Job summary

The University of Alabama in Huntsville is seeking a Research Technician to support launcher systems for ballistic testing and research at the USASMDC-TC Aerophysics Research Facility in Alabama. Requirements include an Associate’s degree or equivalent, 8+ years of relevant experience, strong communication, and US citizenship with eligibility for a Final Secret

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree or 2 years of college coursework or equivalent.
• 8+ years of full-time, verifiable work experience.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills.
• Basic proficiency with computer systems, including MS Office.
• Able to stand for extended periods and lift up to 35 pounds.
• Schedule 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Mon–Fri, with occasional variations for test ops.
• US Citizen eligible for Final Secret Security Clearance.

Responsibilities

• Support assembly, setup, operation, and maintenance of specialized test launcher systems.
• Fabricate, modify, and assemble mechanical components using hand and power tools.
• Document project activities and maintain checklists for records.
• Safely operate material handling equipment per procedures.
• Assist in operation, inspection, and maintenance of hydraulic and pressurized gas systems.
• Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and operational regulations.
• Keep test areas clean, organized, and ready for use.
• Collaborate with engineers and scientists to support sponsor research and facility operations.
